I bet you didn't know these fascinating Belize facts:
- Belize became independent in 1981 from Britain, but it was (centuries previously) a Spanish colony that was overtaken by pirates.
- Belmopan is one of the least-populated world capitals with fewer than 17,000 people and was built in 1970 specifically for that purpose.
- English, Spanish, Creole, Q'eqchi', Mopan, Yucatec, Garifuna, and Plautdietsch (Low German) are among native languages in Belize. Over half of the population is bilingual!
- Belize is 8,867 squared miles: closest in size to the state of New Hampshire. It is divided into six districts.
Love always,
Jess
