Who Knew?

I bet you didn't know these fascinating Belize facts:
  1. Belize became independent in 1981 from Britain, but it was (centuries previously) a Spanish colony that was overtaken by pirates.
  2. Belmopan is one of the least-populated world capitals with fewer than 17,000 people and was built in 1970 specifically for that purpose.
  3. English, Spanish, Creole, Q'eqchi', Mopan, Yucatec, Garifuna, and Plautdietsch (Low German) are among native languages in Belize.  Over half of the population is bilingual!
  4. Belize is 8,867 squared miles: closest in size to the state of New Hampshire.  It is divided into six districts.

Love always,
Jess
