Okay, not literally tons, but more than eight pounds. That was what we were able to harvest before the students went on spring break.
I haven't updated you on the progress of the primary school garden project in a while, so I thought I'd throw together a little post. Seven months after the garden's inception, tomatoes and cilantro have been the most successful of our crops. Conditions were not too ideal for lettuce, radishes, or carrots. The soil is kind of rocky, and most of the time, weekend watering schedules do not go as planned. Although we were able to harvest a bit of everything, the tomatoes were the biggest hit. The kids loved watching them grow and ripen. The students even got more vigilant when the tomatoes started turning orange and red, calling me over every time there was a bug on one of the plants or one of the preschoolers was playing too close to the plants.
Gardening is kind of a tough project to do with kids because it requires a great deal of patience. I was glad to see the group's interest renewed when we were finally able to eat some of the fruits of our labors.

Love always,
