Happy November to my faithful blog readers! (Lookin' at you Gramps and Gram...)
As you guys are headed into the holiday season with Thanksgiving just a couple weeks away, I am working at starting a garden here in my community. Yes, you read that correctly: a garden. I know that may be surprising as I never took a huge liking to yard work at home, but the climate of Belize is very conducive to growing healthy fruits and vegetables so I decided to give it a try.
I have partnered with the school to create an opportunity to let some of the students have a hands-on learning experience and (literally) get their hands dirty. [See below.] So far, we have planted tomatoes, cilantro, radishes, lettuce, and carrots. The first harvest will serve as an experiment to see which seeds do best in the space we have. I sure hope we have at least some vegetables at the end of three months because I don't think I can deal with 30 disappointed kids...
Anyways, I plan to keep you updated, so I hope this becomes kind of a series on my blog. Without much further ado, here are some photos of some of the fun we've had in the garden so far.
Love always,
Jess
