Garifuna Culture Day

I'm pretty much the luckiest person ever.  I got to spend my birthday in the beautiful seaside town of Dangriga.  We learned about Garifuna culture with demonstrations in drum-making, dancing, and spirituality.  The food, as usual, was awesome.  We ate fish stew and cassava.  While I missed being away from friends and family at home on my birthday,  I was surprised by many birthday festivities here in Belize.  My friends decorated the bus and baked a cake for the morning, and Peace Corps staff surprised me with a cake and impromptu beach birthday.  Then, when I got back to town, my host family surprised me with a cake and dancing! It was too fun! Definitely a birthday for the books.  Thanks for all the sweet birthday messages, emails, and texts...It definitely helped to not feel so far away.

Love always,
Jess
