Saturday was our first culture day, and we had the privilege of touring the village of Maya Center where we were acquainted with Mayan culture. We toured a cacao farm, made fresh chocolate, saw a typical Mayan home, learned some crafts from a women's co-op, ate a traditional meal, and met a shaman who showed us her herb garden. Meeting the people of Maya Center has me looking forward to possibly living in a Mayan community. I'll find out my assignment tomorrow...I'll keep you posted.
